Shelf-Life

You’ve got an edible product that you’re proud of, and Bloom Labs wants to help ensure its stability and food safety as required by cannabis regulations to get it successfully to market. Our knowledgeable team of food scientists, analytical chemists and microbiologists will work with you to provide two types of evaluations for your edible product:

Initial stability evaluations – evaluations conducted on a prototype product to determine if it’s ready for scale up or full production

Shelf-life evaluations – determining the estimated shelf life of a final produced and packaged product

Because all edible cannabis products must be shelf stable and can’t be refrigerated or frozen, all product evaluations undergo an Ambient Stability Chamber Condition Evaluation, conducted in a qualified room temperature chamber in real-time.

We are also able to offer an Accelerated Stability Chamber Condition Evaluation as part of your product evaluation. Depending on the product, it can be evaluated at elevated temperatures to determine if degradation of the product will occur at a faster rate. Unlike an ambient test, this is only an estimated procedure and cannot be used for determining the recommended shelf life of a final product.

The benefit of our integrated team also means we can conduct a variety of required tests during the above evaluations that will help determine the best quality and food safe product, including:

Potency

The potency of your product is tested over time to determine if/when it degrades out of the tolerance specifications stated in the cannabis regulations.

Analytical

Depending on the type of product, various analytical tests will determine the quality and safety of your product.

Microbial

Depending on the type of product, certain microbial tests are conducted to determine the food safety of your product initially and then over time.

Sensory

The organoleptic properties (taste, smell, texture and appearance) of the product will be evaluated over time. Please note: if you would like a taste/texture evaluation to occur you must be able to provide uninfused product.
